If you are having surgery
Your consultant will take you through the procedure in detail. You or a family member will be asked to read, understand and sign a consent form, and the anaesthetist will carry out a pre-anaesthesia check.
You will need to fast the night before, including water
Your doctor may ask for a bowel preparation beforehand
The surgical site is shaved or clipped and marked, where that applies
Contact lenses, prosthetics, dentures and jewellery are removed
Staying with a patient
In a multi-bedded room, one person may stay overnight with the patient.
No companions in the High Dependency Unit, labour ward, operating theatre recovery or other critical areas — visits are allowed at set times
If a patient moves to one of those areas, their companion should vacate the room straight away
Once the patient is well enough to return to the ward, the companion may stay again
Infection prevention
We follow infection control practice closely. Our infection control team monitors hospital-associated infection and antibiotic use against national and internationally accepted protocols.
If you have any special requirements you would like to discuss before your stay, please contact customer care well in advance.
