Benchmarking Visit by NPQEL Participants to Putra Medical Centre
On May 21, 2025, Putra Medical Centre (PMC) had the honour of welcoming 46 participants from the 2025 session of the National Professional Qualification for Educational Leaders (NPQEL) program. This program is organised by Institut Aminuddin Baki (IAB), Northern Branch, under the supervision of the Ministry of Education Malaysia.
The participants comprised primary and secondary school teachers from across the country who are currently undergoing intensive training to be appointed as principals or headmasters in their respective institutions. This visit served as a key component of the NPQEL professional leadership development module, aiming to provide first-hand exposure to best practices in governance and strategic leadership within an organisation.
This benchmarking visit was designed to help participants gain deeper insights into the management and operations of private organisations. At the same time, it created opportunities for the exchange of ideas and experiences that could have a positive impact and be adapted and applied within the school management context. The main goal of this visit was to shape educational leaders who are not only high-performing but also effective communicators, people of integrity, and visionaries.
During the visit, participants were warmly welcomed by PMC’s management team. The session began with an opening speech and an introduction to the history and background of the medical centre, delivered by PMC’s Clinical Director, Dato’ Dr. Lim Tze Chou. This was followed by a presentation on human resource management by PMC’s HR Director, which covered areas such as talent management, work culture, and internal organisational leadership.
The visit continued with two insightful health talks: “Can Young People Get Heart Attacks?” by Col. (Rtd.) Dr. Mohamad Anuar Mohamad, and “The Importance of Health for Women Leaders” by Dr. Tan Yin Pin, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. Participants were also introduced to the nursing profession and career pathways through an engaging session by the Director of Nursing, Mdm Punida Sathiveil.
The visit concluded with a tour of the hospital’s facilities, including the main treatment units and operating areas, to give participants a comprehensive view of the management and service implementation systems in the private healthcare sector. Through this session, participants observed how principles of efficiency, integrity, and innovation are thoroughly embedded in PMC’s operations—principles that are highly relevant for application in today’s educational landscape.
Putra Medical Centre extends its sincere appreciation to Institut Aminuddin Baki for selecting PMC as a benchmarking site. We hope this visit will open avenues for broader collaboration between the healthcare and education sectors in fostering a holistic and resilient leadership ecosystem in Malaysia.
