Together, Let’s Save Lives By Blood Donation Drive: A Life-Saving Effort By Putra Medical Centre Alor Setar and Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah

We are proud to announce the rollout of our latest blood donation drive scheduled to commence on 14 January 2025 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the main lobby of Putra Medical Centre Alor Setar (PMC). An activity in collaboration with Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah, this heartfelt campaign is a meaningful event.
Signifying our ongoing commitment to promoting health and prioritising the wellbeing of the people of Kedah, this effort underscores our passion for our community. Where these virtues ring true, this endeavour aims to inspire both PMC Alor Setar employees and the public to take part in the life-saving measure of donating blood, an act which will make a significant difference to the lives of those in need.
A Pint Saves Up To Three Lives
Blood donation plays a critical role in the saving of lives, especially during medical emergencies where patients involved in an accident must undergo surgery, or those with chronic illnesses require a critical procedure. A single pint of blood can save up to three human lives, making all contributions invaluable.
This initiative by Putra Medical Centre Alor Setar and our partner provider reflects our dedication to healthcare excellence and positive impact by ensuring hospitals here have a steady supply of blood for patients. Participants will undergo a basic health screening before donating blood. Such a screening will entail a series of tests to include blood pressure, pulse rate, blood group and haemoglobin levels (HB) checks.
Donor Qualification Criteria
Candidates must have an HB level of 12.5% or higher to qualify as a donor. The overall process of blood donation is simple and safe. It begins with registration and the aforementioned basic health screening. These tests will be conducted by trained medical professionals, ensuring the wellbeing of every donor.
Certain specifications must be met by the individual in order to qualify as a donor. These include being in age bracket of 18 to 60, weighing a minimum of 45 kilogrammes, and overall good physical fitness. Those who do not meet the above basic criteria will be deemed unsuitable for blood donation. Other factors which will affect one’s eligibility are the presence of such pre-existing conditions as thalassemia or certain other complex patient histories. Those above the age of 60 are not suitable as blood donors.
Blood Donation Advantages
For a smooth encounter, candidates are advised to enjoy a sufficient amount of sleep the night before, stay hydrated, and eat a light meal and before coming. Donors are also encouraged to avoid strenuous activities involving the arms and any hand-related tasks after donation – to allow the body to recover.
A Celebration of Solidarity
Participation from the public is crucial to ensure that this blood donation campaign is a success. In this respect, an encouraging response rate from staff members and the wider community is important. Life is precious and worth saving. Therefore, this joint mission captures the above sentiment perfectly.
For those unable to donate blood but want to help, there are other ways to contribute to the success of this campaign. Providing mental support, motivating others, and sharing positive feedback can help encourage first-time donors to participate. By fostering a supportive and welcoming environment, PMC hopes to make the donation process easier and more enjoyable for everyone involved. Interested donors can register on site on the day or contact PMC Alor Setar’s hotline via WhatsApp for more info.
Refreshments Will Be Served
Participants will be offered complimentary refreshments after the blood draw, along with the fulfilling satisfaction of knowing they have contributed to the saving of lives. With the added convenience of easy access to PMC Alor Setar’s location, this campaign makes it hassle-free for donors to get involved.
Spread The Joy of Saving Lives
Themed Together, We Can Save Lives, this blood donation drive by Putra Medical Centre Alor Setar is a heartfelt project seeking to unite an entire community over our shared desire of compassion. Join us in making a life-saving difference to those in need and ensuring a steady blood supply for hospitals.
Together, let’s give the gift of life.
